Flame Top R9,
What a top! Not only does it look like a “Stanley Burst” in pictures, it looks like one up close! A little on the heavy side, but she blazes like hell, it chimes like church bells, and sounds best gritty and loud, huge bass, full of thunder. Built like a tank.  HUGE neck for an R9. The finish is thin, and my guess is that the previous owner(s) had stored this in a very warm area. The nitro finish has “oozed” into the wood and outlined the the patterns of the maple flame, for the very interesting effect of texture. This is visible in some of the pictures above, There is also mild checking that adds presence and individuality to this guitar. I’m keeping this one! All the aging is natural except the tuning keys. These came with the 2006 R8.  The originals were aged by time and packed away for safe keeping.

Photos include details of construction of this guitar.
